In 1984, my daughter, Mitzi, and I began making soft sculpture dolls together. After attending a teddy bear show one day, I said to my daughter, "I can do that!" Thus was the beginning of Tabby's Bears. Our name originated from my two cats who got very jealous when I would work on teddy bears. The cats would jump in my lap and try to push away what I was working on - as if the bears were invading their territory. Tabby's Bears was named in honor of the cats.
Mitzi and I worked together on Tabby's Bears for many years. Today, her husband is retired, and they are traveling. I now work on Tabby's Bears alone.
My favorite part of the creative process is a satisfying completion. Seeing the idea for a bear become reality is very exciting. I love my bears, but I don't mind giving them up to a good home and to someone who will love them too.
Currently I make ones of a kind bears. I no longer do special orders. What is on the web site is what’s for sale, however the Panda Woo Ling will continue to be made and individually numbered.
