Snufftown Bears by Joan Jacobsen
My bear making talents surfaced in 1993 just by sewing crafts for a local show. By 1995 I was hooked on Teddy Bears and was exclusively creating miniature designs, noting, that I was more comfortable with handwork, rather than using a sewing machine ( I was also very nervous about cutting a piece of mohair). By 1998, I unfortunately, needed to return to a full time job giving up my bear making. In the 5 years of my artistry work, I experienced a wonderful comraderie with other artists, magazine editors, collectors, and a passion for anything that was Teddy Bear inspired. I'm happy to say that I am back designing and creating (I am a little rusty, so please be patient). I have some new ideas that I hope will be reflected nicely into my work. I always welcome comments and suggestions, so please feel free to e-mail me. Please note that my previous company was known as "Heart 'n Sole". I found several companies on line with the same name, therefore I have decided to change it. My town of Stockholm which is a section of Hardyston Township, was previously known as "Snufftown". There was a snuff factory in town from the late 1700's to mid 1800's. I always liked the name and decided to use it. I'm sure there were black bears in Snufftown as there are today in Stockholm.
