Heartfelt Bears grew out of Sonya's love for Bears (of course), a delight in gardening in her large cottage garden, and a love for old things.

Her house is decorated in American folk-art style, with stencils, antique quilts, old trunks, an old Amish pitchfork, rocking chairs, etc...and bears of course!

Sonya had dabbled in bearmaking as a young girl and they always held a special appeal, so one day in 1993, when she saw some miniatures in a Teddy shop near her home, she was challenged by their size and detail and decided to try and meet that challenge by making her own. The results were pleasing and it wasn't long before her bears were on sale at a couple of shops in the city.

What began as an interesting hobby, soon became a full-time occupation, with people from all over the world beginning to write, asking for details, photos, etc. of Heartfelt Bears.
